Spanish flu or the 1918 influenza pandemic exceedingly fatal virus caused by H1N1 influenza A Virus. The first case was reported in Kansas, United States, in March 1918. In April, other cases will be reported in Germany, France, and United Kingdom. In 1920, after four successive waves, 500 million people making a third of the global population. It was estimated that between 17 and 50 million people lost their lives; however, researchers argue that deaths may add up to 100 million. It was the deadliest pandemic in the history of humans. Merits of Reviving the Virus

The publication argues that there are both merits and demerits to the recreation of the virus. The researchers argue that reviving the virus was crucial in dealing with any future flu pandemics. My Perspective

Recreating the virus was morally right, but publicizing the recipe was wrong.

The virus remains the worst pandemic in human history. Recreating the virus was a moral thing to do since understanding the genome, and the virus ensures that if the virus will by any chance affect any place, there will be preliminary information on how it can be dealt with. Many viruses affect people’s lives, and having knowledge about them prevents the same from happening. It is hard for one to deal with anything they lack enough information on; hence the scientists’ decision was right. Many terrorist organizations can ensure that the virus is created and spread to the people causing harm; having prior information about the virus enables scientists to be a step ahead in combating such things.

Having information about the genome and recreation of the virus to the general public is a mistake that should not have been made. Even though terrorists will not take information, some scientists will access information, revive the virus and sell it to terrorist groups. Some governments can fund such operations and use the virus as a weapon if they are attacked. Hence, publicizing information about the genome remains the scientists’ mistake. The reviving of the virus was right, but publicizing the recipe to the public was wrong and detrimental.
