Tesla Production and Deliveries in Q4 Exceeded 300k Vehicles.

Being a young automaker, Tesla has yet several milestones to hit. Despite being one of the newest companies in the industry, Tesla has brought about some of the most game-changing cars in the market. Tesla, despite having its list of achieved goals or achievements not thoroughly having been checked or ticked off, the company has still put a lot of effort into the production. Elon, Tesla’s CEO, has continued to share the company’s projects that are still being tested and those that are still far away concepts that the company thinks about venturing into. This, in return, has led to Tesla cars being so popular, which led to one of the most significant milestones that the company has ever hit; stay tuned as we will be looking into this.

Welcome to the Tesla News Hangout, and today we will look into Tesla’s production and how the company was able to exceed 300k vehicles in the 2021 Q4.

The end of 2021 finds Tesla wealthier than ever — and wealthier than anybody else in CEO Elon Musk’s case. Despite a global semiconductor shortage ravaged supply chains globally, virtually crippling the rest of the automotive industry’s manufacturing capacity, the electric car maker set new records for deliveries and earnings this year. Tesla’s financial gains, however, were often overshadowed by the company’s ongoing manufacturing quality difficulties, repeated NHTSA and SEC investigations, high-profile failures of its touted “Full Self Driving” technology, and many cars recalls and delays for new models. Despite such shortcomings, Tesla has been able to have one of the best sales of all time that they have ever recorded in a single yearly quarter.

However, before we can look into the part where Tesla ripped good fruits in 2021, let’s look at some of the things the company has faced with odds, not in its favor. While Tesla’s core portfolio saw runaway sales success, the firm struggled to achieve delivery schedules for a number of its still-to-be-released models. The Cybertruck and Semi have both been delayed until 2022, while the Tesla Roadster is expected to arrive in 2023 at the earliest. Tesla also made the unusual step of just offering an “entry-level” standard range Model Y for a few weeks before abandoning it. Similarly, Tesla postponed the launch of its $130,000 Model S Plaid version until June 10th, only days after Musk indicated that the Model S Plaid+ would be scrapped entirely.

In 2021, the firm was also hit by a slew of manufacturing issues, and car recalls. In February, Tesla succumbed to NHTSA pressure and recalled 135,000 Model X and S cars due to malfunctioning touchscreens. Tesla was obliged to issue a recall for another 12,300 Model Xs due to loose trim panels in the same month. Customers complained in April that Tesla had double-charged them for their cars, up to $71,000 in certain instances, but the firm was quick to compensate them and even tossed in a $200 gift ticket for the company shop.

That was not all since Tesla had to recall another 6,000 Model 3 and Ys in June due to defective brake caliper bolts. In October, Tesla had to recall another batch of Ys and 3s due to their suspensions separating. The business also had to recall over 12,000 vehicles across its entire product range due to software faults – this is not to be confused with the recent Tesla App outage, which locked customers all around the globe out of their cars.

Tesla’s string of misfortunes extended to the assembly lines, with the Fremont facility experiencing a large COVID outbreak soon after reopening in March. Musk bemoaned California’s quarantine lockdown regulations often and publicly throughout 2020 and ultimately followed well on his threats to pack his belongings and leave, relocating Tesla’s offices to Texas in October.

Tesla was also forced to pay former employee Owen Diaz $137 million after a federal court jury in San Francisco deemed the firm accountable for the inexcusable racial prejudice Diaz encountered while working at the Fremont facility. Another case was filed in November by Jessica Barraza, who claimed “rampant sexual harassment” and continuing verbal and physical assault while working at the Fremont facility.

In 2021, Tesla’s Full Self-Driving beta proved to be a mixed bag for the corporation. Following its first release in October of last year, beta 8.3 was released in May, effectively tripling the size of the test program, before beta nine was released in July. Customers who already had the $1,500 FSD computer hardware installed in their car could and can sign up for a new FSD subscription program for $199 per month.

Tesla’s choice in May to forego radar-based autonomation sensors in favor of an optical-only configuration sparked a response from the NHTSA, forcing the firm to remove several of its driver-assist labels, including front collision and lane departure alerts. In late May, Tesla activated its in-car driver monitoring cameras in response to allegations that using the Autopilot system might lead drivers to become inattentive and less responsive after they regain control of the vehicle.

Owners reported better turns on city streets, improved display images, and an overall improvement in the vehicle’s off-highway navigation when FSD beta 10 arrived in September 2021. However, those thoughts were short-lived as the firm was forced to retract its beta 10.3 deployment in October after discovering “some issues,” including a “regression” with left turns, according to Musk. Users also observed Auto-steering issues and phantom forward-collision alerts.

The NHTSA, NTSB, US Senate, and even the California DMV have all called for more investigation into Tesla’s FSD flaws. These flaws have been linked to multiple crashes in which Teslas inexplicably rammed into first responder vehicles and other civilian drivers, as well as a widely-reported wreck in Houston with no one behind the wheel.

The Chinese government ordered a 300,000-unit recall due to the ease with which FSD may be triggered, yet it was far from Tesla’s only difficulty with the country. In April, China banned Tesla automobiles from military posts and “important state-owned firms,” citing concerns that the vehicles’ many cameras may be used for spying. After almost a month of fighting and social media pleas, Tesla eventually gave in to China’s cybersecurity requests and built a local center for the data.

Moving away from that, let’s get to the part where Tesla got the most thanks to its production. Without question, 2021 was a good year for Tesla’s bottom line. The firm began this year having achieved its 2020 target of manufacturing 500,000 cars (of which 499,550 were delivered to customers), increasing over 133,000 units over 2019. Tesla had built a total of 180,338 vehicles by April, with 184,800 of those delivered. Due to price reductions on both the Model 3 and Model Y, demand remained robust during the year’s first half.

The corporation then set a new record in July, producing 200,000 automobiles in the previous three months and earning $1.1 billion in net profits in the process. “Public attitude toward electric cars is reaching an inflection point, and I believe nearly everyone believes that electric vehicles are the only way forward at this moment,” Musk said during the company’s second-quarter earnings call.

What he never knew was that even more and better earnings awaited the comapny in the coming days. Tesla’s record-breaking streak continued unbroken in Q3, with the firm rolling out 237,823 cars — nearly all of the Model 3 and Model Y models — and delivering 241,300 of them. In October, the business started accepting pre-orders for the Model Y in the United Kingdom and announcing that Model Ys bound for the Chinese market will get improved AMD Ryzen chipsets. This led to even more cars being ordered by Tesla customers worldwide.

This move even saw some of the biggest companies in the world make pre-orders from the company. Hertz announced intentions to acquire 100,000 cars (though it’s unclear how that agreement will work out), and Uber Eats announced plans to rent as many as 50,000 Tesla vehicles to its drivers, capping off a fantastic financial year for Tesla.

What’s Next

In the year 2022, Tesla seems to be on pace, but even with Tesla’s record-breaking production numbers in recent years, the number of cars it produces each year is still a tiny fraction of what more established manufacturers sell. In 2020, BMW, for example, sold 2.3 million automobiles globally. GM sold 2.5 million cars in the United States alone in the same year. Yes, Tesla still has a long way to go, but the number of units delivered in 2021 Q4 shows that the company still holds some good potential.

Reaching that point brings us to the end of today’s video. Do you think Tesla will continue breaking its all-time high number of units sold in a single quarter in a year?
