INT. FAFA’S HOUSE, BEDROOM

1 INT. PROF’S HOUSE, BEDROOM – DAY

Auntie Connie hums as she stretches the bed. A phone rings.

She looks around and finds it under a pillow. Prof rushes

into the room, toothbrush in hand, and grabs the phone with

a frown on his face.

1 PROF

What if it’s one of my

international clients? Will you

know what to say to them?

Prof looks at the number calling and quickly hands the phone

to his wife to answer.

2 AUNTIE CONNIE

I thought you didn’t want me

touching your phone.

3 PROF

I said, don’t touch without

permission.

4 AUNTIE CONNIE

What should I tell your Lotto

international clients?

5 PROF

Tell them I’m dead.

6 AUNTIE CONNIE

How dead?

7 PROF

You’re planning the funeral

arrangements.

8 AUNTIE CONNIE

So, since now that you’re dead, can

I re-marry?

9 PROF

Concentrate.

The phone rings again. Auntie Connie picks it up.

10 AUNTIE CONNIE(CONT’D)

Morning?

Prof signals her to look sadder.

11 PHONE(V.O)

Who is this? Where’s the owner of

the phone?

12 AUNTIE CONNIE

(Grieving tone)

He is dead.

Auntie Connie bursts into a dramatic cry as she mourns and

replies.

13 AUNTIE CONNIE

It happened today morning.

“How did he die?”…

Auntie Connie looks at Prof for an answer. Prof gesture

using his toothbrush as it hits his palm, severally but

Auntie Connie is not getting his message.

14 AUNTIE CONNIE

He was poked with a spear.

(Prof shakes his head)

No, he was poked severally with a

spear.

Prof shakes his head vigorously.

15 AUNTIE CONNIE(CONT’D)

Just know he is dead. My husband is

dead.

Auntie Connie sobs loudly into the phone.

16 PHONE(V.O)

I’m sorry, my dear.

17 AUNTIE CONNIE

I’m not your dear. I’m still a

married woman. Shame on you.

Auntie Connie hangs up and ends the performance like a

theatre actor to Prof’s happiness.

18 PROF

You should win an Oscar for that

fake performance.

19 AUNTIE CONNIE

I’m good at faking.

Prof looks at the bed.

20 AUNTIE CONNIE

Concentrate. The most important

thing is for you to pay people’s

money.

Auntie Connie bends over and continues straightening the

bed.

2 EXT. COMPOUND, CHICKEN COOP AREA

Mama Tanko and her daughter are cleaning up the chicken

coop. More like Mama Tanko is giving instruction. Mama Tanko

21 MAMA TANKO

BT after you’re done cleaning, open

for the chicken to roam and get

some sunlight.

22 BT

Ma, when are we going to eat this

things.

23 MAMA TANKO

How many times have I told you

those are not for eating.

24 BT

So they are pets.

25 MAMA TANKO

No, it’s against Tanko Villa

by-laws to have pets. They are

plant fertilizers for the flowers

and grass.

An officially dressed Kumi walks, blowing his nose into a

handkerchief.

26 MAMA TANKO(CONT’D)

You should get that checked. There

is a flu going around, and I

wouldn’t want it spreading.

27 KUMI

It’s just allergies. It usually

happens this time of the year due to

the pollen in the air.

BT waves at Kumi.

(CONTINUED)

28 MAMA TANKO

There’s medicine for that too.

29 KUMI

I’ll look into it.

Prof walks up carrying with him a bag, on the edge of his

mouth there is dried up toothpaste form.

30 PROF

How is everyone doing this bright

morning? Those chickens look to have

matured enough, when do we eat

them.

31 MAMA TANKO

During your funeral.

Kumi takes this opportunity and quickly leaves.

32 MAMA TANKO

Did the mirror I fixed in your

house working.

33 PROF

Yes, very much. Why?

BT from the touches her lip trying motion Prof to wipe

his mouth.

34 PROF

Anyway, I’m off to the village.

I’ll be back tomorrow, look after

my wife for me. Bye.

Prof leaves.

35 MAMA TANKO

Doesn’t Connie look at that man

before he leaves the house.

36 BT

Maybe she hasn’t woken up.

37 MAMA TANKO

That woman likes food too much, she

can’t be found in bed right now.

BT opens the chicken coop, and two white chicken walks out to

Mama Tanko delight.

3 INT. FAFA’S HOUSE, BEDROOM – DAY

OB is asleep in silk pyjama snoring with Fafa sat up next to

him with her earphone on as she chats, from the smile on her

face it’s an illicit conversation.

OB turns from his sleep and touches Fafa, and she also faints

as she removes the earphones.

38 OB

What’s the matter, my sweet darling?

39 FAFA

(Swallows)

Nothing.

40 OB

That can’t be.

41 FAFA

If you must know, I have been

informed that a schoolmate of mine

has passed on, and we were just

discussing the funeral

arrangements.

42 OB

I’m so sorry.

OB reaches over to the bed stand and retrieves his wallet,

handing Fafa some notes.

43 OB

Send that as a contribution for the

burial. That’s 500 cedis.

44 FAFA

Thank you. This will go a long way.

OB pecks Fafa on the cheek as he gets up. On standing we

realize that his trouser is wedged between his butt.

45 OB

So what are we having for

breakfast?

OB leaves the room with one hand liberating his trouser from

his butt cheeks to Fafa disgust.

4 INT. OBUMPA’S HOUSE, LIVING ROOM – DAY

in with a roll of tissue papers and a bottle of air fresher in

hand.

46 MRS OBUMPA

Didn’t we discuss how one should

put up the toilet paper in the

bathroom? Will it kill you to hang

into like this and not like this?

Mrs Obumpa demonstrates.

47 MRS OBUMPA

Is that so hard?

48 MR OBUMPA

I apologize, it won’t happen

again.

49 MR OBUMPA

(From the bible)

“Let he who is without sin be the

first to cast a stone.”

50 MRS OBUMPA

You always say that. And no using

this vanilla toilet spray again. It’s making me nauseous.

Mr Obumpa nods.

51 MR OBUMPA

Noted with thanks.

Mrs Obumpa’s attitude changes suddenly to a more pleasure

one.

52 MRS OBUMPA

Okay. So what time are you going to

work?

53 MR OBUMPA

My van has some mechanical issue so

the boss took it to the garage.

I’ll pick it up in the afternoon.

54 MRS OBUMPA

(Suspicious)

What did you do? Have you been

fired? Be straight with me.

(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED: 7.

Mr Obumpa places his bible down and walks over to his wife

holding her by the hands calmly with his eye straight into

hers.

55 MR OBUMPA

I haven’t been fired. The van is at

the mechanic and no more vanilla

toilet spray.

Mr Obumpa takes the bottle of toilet spray from his wife and

tosses towards a bin that at the corner of the room and

misses.

56 MRS OBUMPA

That God you aren’t a professional

basket-ball player otherwise, we

would be in trouble.

letter word.

58 MAMA TANKO

Chicken.

Papa Tanko looks up to confirm if his wife is joking. BT

counts her finger, ‘thinking’.

59 PAPA TANKO

You can’t be serious.

60 BT

At least you go one part of the

question right?

61 PAPA TANKO

What part?

62 BT

The word chicken has 6 letters.

Mama Tanko and BT high-5 as they laugh. A girl-power moment.

(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED: 8.

63 PAPA TANKO

I don’t know why I bother asking

you questions.

64 MAMA TANKO

Because I usually have all the

answers. BT clean up and go get

your father his breakfast.

BT leaves and we see a smile on Papa Tanko face.

65 MAMA TANKO

(At Papa Tanko)

All the answer.

6 INT. COMMUNAL KITCHEN – DAY

Fafa is shallow frying some sausage on a pan bubbling her

head to the music on her earphones, when Auntie Connie

appears with a gluttonious glow on his face.

66 AUNTIE CONNIE

My best friend Fafa, I thought that

must be you…

Fafa doesn’t respond and Auntie Connie taps her on the

shoulder and Fafa turns holding up the fork as a weapon.

67 FAFA

What? Connie?

68 AUNTIE CONNIE

Yes it’s me.

Auntie Connie eyes are on the already cooked sausage that

are on a metallic tray on the counter as Fafa gets back to

her frying.

69 FAFA

Give me a minute I’ll be done and

gone.

70 AUNTIE CONNIE

No need to hurry, take your time. I

respect people’s time. And even

people. Actually this morning I was

telling my husband how I respect

you more than anyone else in this

villa.

towards Auntie Connie who acts like she’s not interested.

Fafa fully turns to looks at her with a questioning stare.

71 FAFA

You don’t want?

72 AUNTIE CONNIE

Just one, cause you have insisted.

Auntie Connie grabs the sausage which is still hot and

proceeds eat. She takes a bit battles through the burning by

blowing in and out.

73 FAFA

Careful it’s hot.

Fafa is done cooking, switches of the cooker and leaves with

the plate of now cooked sausage.

Auntie Connie notices the empty wrapper that the sausage

7 EXT. COMPOUND – CONTINOUS

Fafa walks towards her house with earphones on, when two

strange men walk up to her from behind.

74 STRANGE MAN 1

75 FAFA

Auntie Connie, enough is–

Fafa again uses the fork she had as a weapon to defend

herself in turn droping the sausages down, just as Auntie

Connie runs carrying the wrapper in hand to Fafa relief.

81 FAFA

Auntie Connie?

82 AUNTIE CONNIE

Yes, my best friend.

The two men turn their attention to Auntie Connie who’s

saddened concentration is on sausages on the ground.

83 STRANGE MAN 1

I’m so sorry. We thought–

84 STRANGE MAN 2

I know how it feels.

85 AUNTIE CONNIE

(Referring to the sausage)

This is so painful.

Fafa is the foreigner to whatever is being conversed.

86 FAFA

(At the men)

What do you want here and who are

you?

Auntie Connie picks up the sausages placing them on the tray

that’s in Fafa’s hand.

87 AUNTIE CONNIE

10 second rule. If you wash this

one you can still eat. I wouldn’t

want OB to go hungry.

91 AUNTIE CONNIE

My husband is not dead. It’s was

just a joke.

92 STRANGE MAN 1

I’m sorry but he’s no more, we are

just from the mortuary and confirm.

This is the only thing that

survived.

They produce a calculator similar to the one Prof uses to do

Lotto calculations. On seeing it, Auntie Connie dramatically

faints and is saved from hitting the ground by by the man

holding the calculator.

The man hands the calculator to Fafa as the two men help

The men are about to put her on the floor when-

94 FAFA

Not on the floor, on the sofa-set.

95 STRANGE MAN 1

I was thinking the same thing but I

didn’t want to be rude.

They place Connie on the sofa-set with her head a few feet

from the sausages that are on the table.

or tea.

99 FAFA

So is it juice, water or tea.

100 STRANGE MAN 1

Just bring them all, we’ll know

when by the time you get back.

The two nod in agreement at a puzzled Fafa leaves the house.

101 STRANGE MAN 1

So he has left all this?

They other man nods as they look around the house and end at

104 FAFA

I don’t care life is too short.

105 KUMI

So you want to get the flu instead.

OB walks out of the house and spots the two. He can’t

believe his eyes, he opens his mouth to speak but can’t get

the words out, as he approaches them.

Kumi spot OB and pushes Fafa off and we watch as the quaking

OB marches up. Fafa thinks quick and drops to the ground

OB stops going for Kumi.

110 OB

My condolences I didn’t know he was

your friend.

111 KUMI

Benson is dead?

112 FAFA

Not Benson, Prof is dead. Your

friend is dead.

Fafa lets out a melodramatic scream that makes the two

uncomfortable as they watch her.

113 OB

Auntie Connie husband.

114 KUMI

I don’t know.

115 OB

What kind of friend are you?

OB struggles to help Fafa off the ground and signals a

reluctant Kumi to help him. He does but with a distrustful

look at OB. The two sandwich Fafa between them leading her

out of the area.

OB notices Kumi hand on Fafa waist and slaps it just as the

rest of the Tanko Villa residents walks out of their house

to meet them; Papa Tanko walks out with a rolled up

newspaper while Mama Tanko has a rake in hand and BT has

nothing – she notices and folds her fists instead.

tell you friends are not loyal this

days.

119 MAMA TANKO

What exactly is happening here?

Auntie Connie turns to face them and we notice her mouth is

full and she is chewing something which makes it hard for

her to talk.

122 STRANGE MAN 1

Please help me. It’s not my time

How did he die?

127 FAFA

Let him explain.

All eyes fall on the man.

128 STRANGE MAN 1

I need water, or juice, maybe tea.

Mama Tanko grabs the bottle of a resistant Mr Obumpa and

hands it to the man. The man drinks. BT focus is on the

unconcious man against the wall.

129 BT

Is that one alive? What did you do

to then Auntie Connie.

Mama Tank then grabs the bottle from the man who moves back

in fear as she pour the remaining water on the man and he

immediately regains conciousness.

130 MR OBUMPA

That is the last of my anointing

water.

131 OB

What is anointing water.

132 MR OBUMPA

Water that has been prayed for.

133 OB

in a few.

138 PAPA TANKO

You’ve heard the boss, out.

139 MAMA TANKO

tray but before she can leave.

140 AUNTIE CONNIE

(At Fafa/Referring to

sausages)

Do you have any more? I usually eat

when I’m stressed, or when my

husband dies.

141 FAFA

I’ll make you some.

Fafa exits last leaving Auntie Connie being comforted with

Mama Tanko.

145 OB

It’s serive disturbing.

146 FAFA

It really is. I wish there is some

I could do?

147 OB

There is, you can stop embracing

everyone man around. Did you have

to hug that receptionist.

148 FAFA

Kumi, he is not a receptionist. He

is a teller at the bank.

(Flirting/Soathing tone)

Is my daddy jealous. Aaah that is

so romantic. I only have eyes for

you my big sweet daddy.

Fafa walks up and pets OB’s face, and he mood tenderises.

149 OB

I have an idea of how we can

help Auntie Connie. Give her the

money I gave you for your friend

and then I’ll refund you later.

150 FAFA

way to work. If I had known I’d

would have—

I don’t known what, but I’d do

something.

156 BT

Don’t blame yourself.

157 KUMI

I’m not.

158 BT

Because one you’ll also die, and I

die, and they’ll die. We’ll all die

now. Right?

No of the people around wants to engage in this story.

Kumi stuffy nose does that thing again forcing him to blow

We are done here.

164 STRANGE MAN 1

No we need more seats. Other people

are coming.

165 BT

How many more.

166 STRANGE MAN 2

How many can seat here right now.

BT tries to do the math, counting her fingers.

it and spray into the flash greating a large ball of fire.

Mr Obumpa accepts defeat.

172 MR OBUMPA

What are you doing carrying around

a matchbox.

173 MRS OBUMPA

Do you want to start doing the

cooking in this house?

174 MR OBUMPA

No.

175 MRS OBUMPA

When you do, I’ll answer you.

That takes a deep breath and smiles.

176 MRS OBUMPA

I like that smell of burnt vanilla

better.

Mrs Obumpa returns the box of matches to their rightful

place and exits, leaving the spray on the table.

177 MR OBUMPA

Next time I go shopping I’ll be

sure to look for that brand.

180 MAMA TANKO(CONT’D)

Today we are here to mourn a great

man, friend and husband.

Auntie Connie opens her mouth wide to let out a cry and Fafa

swiftly shove a piece of sausage into her mouth. They cry

turns to a chewy and spicey moment, pacifies Auntie Connie.

181 MAMA TANKO

My daughter has set up a group for

this matter, where we’ll send our

suggestion and contribution to make

Porffesor’s send off as smooth as

humanily possible.

Auntie Connie attempt to cry again and Fafa does the same

thing but this time she misses Auntie Connie mouth. However

Auntie Connie reaches for the sausage herself.

182 MAMA TANKO

I’m opening the stage for anyone

that would like to speak, share a

moment. Each family can volunteer a

spokes-person.

BT turns to Kumi, persuading him to stand. Kumi refuses as

Papa Tanko moves up.

183 PAPA TANKO

Prof has lived here with us for

many years and in that time we have

the young man very well. However

there is one occasion that come to

mind. One day I gave him a lift in

my V8 and he accidently let out a

fart after I jumped over a bump at

160kmh.

The crowd reacts, by not reacting.

187 OB(V.O)

The thing I respected was how he

owned up to his mistake. He didn’t

deny. That’s all for now.

Mama Tanko claps and they rest join in.

BT is still on Kumi case and finally he gives in and takes

the spot.

188 KUMI

Hi guys?

189 BT

Hi Kumi.

190 KUMI

Prof, I’ll see you when you get

there, see you when you get there.

I see you when I get there. Peace.

People genuinely clap as Strange man 1 walks up.

191 STRANGE MAN 1

Prof was like a father to me. And

his wife here like a very, very,

very distant step-mother whom I

meet today.

Auntie Connie opens her mouth to cry again and BT looks at

Fafa to do the sausage-thing. Fafa shakes her head, there’s

no more. Mama Tanko interrupts Strange man 1 by ringing the

bell, this also halt Auntie Connie oncoming cry.

192 MAMA TANKO

(Interrupting)

Thank you everyone. You may have a

seat sir.

193 AUNTIE CONNIE

I have a speak to.

Auntie Connie says this as she stand and approaches and

stand infront, the silence is deafening as people expect for

the sound of chicken.

Auntie Connie eye-line is directed over and beyond the

crowds heads.

194 AUNTIE CONNIE

Prof, I see you. Come to me. Come

to me.

One of the strange men signals his mate that Auntie Connie

has lost her mind.

195 AUNTIE CONNIE(CONT’D)

Come to me.

Following her eye-line we spot a buffled Prof walks up.

196 PROF

Sorry I’m late. I didn’t know we

have a meeting today.

(At the two strange men)

What are you doing here?

The two strange men jump back.

197 STRANGE MAN 1

I told you he is a devil

worshipper, but you refused.

As they run off, with the rest of the crowd confused. Mr

Obumpa opens his holy water bottles hoping to banish Prof,

but it’s empty.

16 EXT. COMPOUND – NIGHT

A while later; all the other residents have their attention

focused at Prof. Everyone has a cup and BT goes with a

thermos of tea, filling them up.

198 PROF

Those rumours where started by my

199 MAMA TANKO

But why?

(CONTINUED)

200 PROF

That’s like asking we have blood in

probably die because of the high

fuel prices or something else like

that. You can be sure.

201 OB

We don’t use fuel because we are

not machine.

202 PROF

(Exclaims)

That exactly what I’m saying. You

can’t know.

203 FAFA

So I guess you’ll have to start by

refunding the money that you have

received as contribution.

204 BT

I already did. Expect for the cash

I got from Fafa.

Prof and Auntie Connie aren’t impressed. BT hands the notes

to OB cause he is closer and instead of giving it to Fafa he

pockets it.

The sound of a angry mob approaching can be heard coming

from outside the gate as it get closer and they are finally

outside the gate. A hand from the outside tries to unlock

the gate but it’s locked.

All that can seen is are the shoes soles of the mob on the

ground and club, spears and sticks that have been lite.

205 STRANGE MAN 1(V.O)

Bring that demon here so that we

can kill him properly.

The chants from outside get louder.

206 PROF

Who do you think they mean?

They all turn and look at Prof.

207 MAMA TANKO

Someone call the police.

OB already has his phone to his ear.

(CONTINUED)

CONTINUED: 25.

208 OB

Chief Inspector, evening? How is

the family doing? Aaah, that’s good

to hear. So tell me, what’s new?

Can you send a few boys to my young

wife’s premise, there is some

disturbance. “How many?”

OB is asking the other, with all of them putting up

different amount using the fingers.

A figure from outside climbs up the gate, revealing Strange

man 1 who peeps into the compound.

209 STRANGE MAN 1

There he is. I can see him.

210 MAMA TANKO

Does that fool how much that gate

cost?

Papa Tanko holds his wife from walking towards the gate.

A terrified and trembling Prof grabs OB’s phone and screams

into it.

211 PROF

Bring them all! We are dying!

OB pulls it back and hangs up.

212 OB

What you have done can get you

killed for real.

213 KUMI

Now what?

214 OB

We wait.

215 KUMI

For what?

216 PROF

Death.

Prof scatters just as a police siren is head approaching,

following by shoots in the air and we hear the crowd get

disparse. OB is proud of himself as his phone rings and he

answers.

(CONTINUED)
