1 INT. PROF’S HOUSE, BEDROOM – DAY
Auntie Connie hums as she stretches the bed. A phone rings.
She looks around and finds it under a pillow. Prof rushes
into the room, toothbrush in hand, and grabs the phone with
a frown on his face.
1 PROF
What if it’s one of my
international clients? Will you
know what to say to them?
Prof looks at the number calling and quickly hands the phone
to his wife to answer.
2 AUNTIE CONNIE
I thought you didn’t want me
touching your phone.
3 PROF
I said, don’t touch without
permission.
4 AUNTIE CONNIE
What should I tell your Lotto
international clients?
5 PROF
Tell them I’m dead.
6 AUNTIE CONNIE
How dead?
7 PROF
You’re planning the funeral
arrangements.
8 AUNTIE CONNIE
So, since now that you’re dead, can
I re-marry?
9 PROF
Concentrate.
The phone rings again. Auntie Connie picks it up.
10 AUNTIE CONNIE(CONT’D)
Morning?
Prof signals her to look sadder.

Who is this? Where’s the owner of
the phone?
12 AUNTIE CONNIE
(Grieving tone)
He is dead.
Auntie Connie bursts into a dramatic cry as she mourns and
replies.
13 AUNTIE CONNIE
It happened today morning.
“How did he die?”…
Auntie Connie looks at Prof for an answer. Prof gesture
using his toothbrush as it hits his palm, severally but
Auntie Connie is not getting his message.
14 AUNTIE CONNIE
He was poked with a spear.
(Prof shakes his head)
No, he was poked severally with a
spear.
Prof shakes his head vigorously.
15 AUNTIE CONNIE(CONT’D)
Just know he is dead. My husband is
dead.
Auntie Connie sobs loudly into the phone.
16 PHONE(V.O)
I’m sorry, my dear.
17 AUNTIE CONNIE
I’m not your dear. I’m still a
married woman. Shame on you.
Auntie Connie hangs up and ends the performance like a
theatre actor to Prof’s happiness.
18 PROF
You should win an Oscar for that
fake performance.
19 AUNTIE CONNIE
I’m good at faking.
Prof looks at the bed.

22 BT
Ma, when are we going to eat this

23 MAMA TANKO
How many times have I told you
those are not for eating.
24 BT
So they are pets.
25 MAMA TANKO
No, it’s against Tanko Villa
by-laws to have pets. They are
plant fertilizers for the flowers
and grass.
An officially dressed Kumi walks, blowing his nose into a
handkerchief.
26 MAMA TANKO(CONT’D)
You should get that checked. There
is a flu going around, and I
wouldn’t want it spreading.
27 KUMI
It’s just allergies. It usually
happens this time of the year due to
the pollen in the air.
BT waves at Kumi.

29 KUMI
I’ll look into it.
Prof walks up carrying with him a bag, on the edge of his
mouth there is dried up toothpaste form.
30 PROF
How is everyone doing this bright
morning? Those chickens look to have
matured enough, when do we eat
them.
31 MAMA TANKO
During your funeral.
Kumi takes this opportunity and quickly leaves.
32 MAMA TANKO
Did the mirror I fixed in your
house working.
33 PROF
Yes, very much. Why?
BT from the touches her lip trying motion Prof to wipe

34 PROF
Anyway, I’m off to the village.
I’ll be back tomorrow, look after
my wife for me. Bye.

35 MAMA TANKO
Doesn’t Connie look at that man
before he leaves the house.
36 BT
Maybe she hasn’t woken up.

OB turns from his sleep and touches Fafa, and she also faints
as she removes the earphones.
38 OB
What’s the matter, my sweet darling?
39 FAFA
(Swallows)
Nothing.
40 OB
That can’t be.
41 FAFA
If you must know, I have been
informed that a schoolmate of mine
has passed on, and we were just
discussing the funeral
arrangements.
42 OB
I’m so sorry.
OB reaches over to the bed stand and retrieves his wallet,
handing Fafa some notes.
43 OB
Send that as a contribution for the
burial. That’s 500 cedis.
44 FAFA
Thank you. This will go a long way.
OB pecks Fafa on the cheek as he gets up. On standing we

in with a roll of tissue papers and a bottle of air fresher in
hand.
46 MRS OBUMPA
Didn’t we discuss how one should
put up the toilet paper in the
bathroom? Will it kill you to hang
into like this and not like this?
Mrs Obumpa demonstrates.
47 MRS OBUMPA
Is that so hard?
48 MR OBUMPA
I apologize, it won’t happen
again.
49 MR OBUMPA
(From the bible)
“Let he who is without sin be the
first to cast a stone.”
50 MRS OBUMPA
You always say that. And no using
this vanilla toilet spray again. It’s making me nauseous.
Mr Obumpa nods.
51 MR OBUMPA
Noted with thanks.
Mrs Obumpa’s attitude changes suddenly to a more pleasure
one.
52 MRS OBUMPA
Okay. So what time are you going to
work?
53 MR OBUMPA
My van has some mechanical issue so
the boss took it to the garage.
I’ll pick it up in the afternoon.
54 MRS OBUMPA

fired? Be straight with me.

toilet spray.
Mr Obumpa takes the bottle of toilet spray from his wife and
tosses towards a bin that at the corner of the room and

Papa Tanko looks up to confirm if his wife is joking. BT
counts her finger, ‘thinking’.
59 PAPA TANKO
You can’t be serious.
60 BT
At least you go one part of the
question right?
61 PAPA TANKO
What part?
62 BT

Fafa doesn’t respond and Auntie Connie taps her on the
shoulder and Fafa turns holding up the fork as a weapon.
67 FAFA
What? Connie?
68 AUNTIE CONNIE
Yes it’s me.
Auntie Connie eyes are on the already cooked sausage that
are on a metallic tray on the counter as Fafa gets back to
her frying.
69 FAFA
Give me a minute I’ll be done and
gone.

This is so painful.
Fafa is the foreigner to whatever is being conversed.
86 FAFA

Auntie Connie picks up the sausages placing them on the tray
that’s in Fafa’s hand.
87 AUNTIE CONNIE

92 STRANGE MAN 1
I’m sorry but he’s no more, we are
just from the mortuary and confirm.
This is the only thing that

105 KUMI
So you want to get the flu instead.

115 OB
What kind of friend are you?
OB struggles to help Fafa off the ground and signals a
reluctant Kumi to help him. He does but with a distrustful
look at OB. The two sandwich Fafa between them leading her
out of the area.
OB notices Kumi hand on Fafa waist and slaps it just as the
rest of the Tanko Villa residents walks out of their house
to meet them; Papa Tanko walks out with a rolled up

you my big sweet daddy.
Fafa walks up and pets OB’s face, and he mood tenderises.

The crowd reacts, by not reacting.
187 OB(V.O)
The thing I respected was how he
owned up to his mistake. He didn’t
deny. That’s all for now.
Mama Tanko claps and they rest join in.
BT is still on Kumi case and finally he gives in and takes

191 STRANGE MAN 1

his wife here like a very, very,
very distant step-mother whom I
meet today.
Auntie Connie opens her mouth to cry again and BT looks at
Fafa to do the sausage-thing. Fafa shakes her head, there’s
no more. Mama Tanko interrupts Strange man 1 by ringing the

As they run off, with the rest of the crowd confused. Mr

but it’s empty.

200 PROF
That’s like asking we have blood in
our bodies and not fuel. It might
be because some people would

201 OB
We don’t use fuel because we are
not machine.

refunding the money that you have
received as contribution.
204 BT
I already did. Expect for the cash
I got from Fafa.
Prof and Auntie Connie aren’t impressed. BT hands the notes
to OB cause he is closer and instead of giving it to Fafa he
pockets it.
The sound of a angry mob approaching can be heard coming
from outside the gate as it get closer and they are finally
outside the gate. A hand from the outside tries to unlock
the gate but it’s locked.
All that can seen is are the shoes soles of the mob on the
ground and club, spears and sticks that have been lite.
205 STRANGE MAN 1(V.O)
Bring that demon here so that we
can kill him properly.
The chants from outside get louder.
206 PROF
Who do you think they mean?
They all turn and look at Prof.
207 MAMA TANKO

OB already has his phone to his ear.

Can you send a few boys to my young
wife’s premise, there is some
disturbance. “How many?”
OB is asking the other, with all of them putting up
different amount using the fingers.
A figure from outside climbs up the gate, revealing Strange
man 1 who peeps into the compound.
209 STRANGE MAN 1
There he is. I can see him.
210 MAMA TANKO
Does that fool how much that gate
cost?
Papa Tanko holds his wife from walking towards the gate.
A terrified and trembling Prof grabs OB’s phone and screams
into it.
211 PROF
Bring them all! We are dying!
OB pulls it back and hangs up.
212 OB
What you have done can get you
killed for real.
213 KUMI
Now what?
214 OB

215 KUMI
